And the DO WORK Award goes to...

Each month the coaches choose one person who exudes the attitude and work ethic of a true CrossFitter. Someone who always tries hard, doesn't have an ego, is friendly to new members, someone who we are proud to have as a part of the CFS Community.

This month's recepient is Hilary.

How long have you been CrossFitting?  In total I've been CrossFitting for about 18 months - although that's spread out between when I first started at Crossfit Stamford in June of '09 and now.

Why did you join CrossFit Stamford?  I was looking for something different, a program that was challenging and engaging.  I was an athlete in college, and really thrive on the competition and community aspect of being on a team.  And frankly, running got really boring.  I tried Crossfit and it was really really challenging, which was frustrating at first, but everyone was very welcoming and wanted me to do well, which was really motivating.

What is your favorite movement?  It changes - I really like bodyweight movements though - wall balls, squats, pushups, pullups, etc.  More than anything else, there's a more noticable/ tangible impovement.  Recently, I've been working on my pistols.

What is your least favorite movement?  Hand-stand push-ups!

What is the best thing about CrossFit Stamford?  The community.  The people next to you are pushing you and supporting you at the same time, and while we're always competing in the gym, we still want each other to do well.

Most memorable moment?  My first-ever WOD.  It was a timed circuit that included a run, pull-ups, and something else.  I was last by far, and was having trouble with my last set of pull-ups, which I was using a green band for.  As most people started filing out, I remember Kristie and Sans cheering me on until I got the last couple of reps. That was a long time ago...

What are your fitness goals 3 months & 1 year from now?  In 3 months, I'd really like to make it to 1 Abmat for handstand push-ups.  In a year, I'd like to be focusing on muscle-ups.  I've got a long way to go to be able to do one.

What are your favorite Paleo & non Paleo foods?  I started making this egg casserole once a week - scramble up 8-10 eggs, and add sausage and a ton of veggies - usually mushrooms, spinach, and onions, and bake in an 8x8 dish.  It's delicious, easy, and is breakfast for the week.  As for non-Paleo: I love carbs!  Bagels to be specific.  I could eat a bagel for every meal and be perfectly happy.

What advice would you give a potential new member?  Stick with it!  No one is good at CrossFit right when you start, but the more you do it, the better you get.  Dont be intimidated if you dont know how to do something or can't handle the prescribed weight - do what you can and push yourself, you'll be surprised what you are capable of!

What do you think of Rob's beard?  It's solid, but I think he's caught somewhere between neat-bearded-broker, and burly-lumberjack.  Pick a side.

Tell us something we don't know about you.  Singing is my guilty pleasure (mainly because I'm not all that good).  I took voice lessons once-upon-a-time, and have been looking at starting up again.

CONGRATS HILARY!!!

- you didn't think we forgot about this little video did you?

Congrats Hillary!

The beard crosses over into the lumberjack stage when I get lazy with grooming and/or want to scare small children.

Hilary - You're so special to us because we've been on this journey together for a long time. I have fond memories of you in our very first gym, at the first regional event CF Stamford ever attended, the Halloween party where you exchanged numbers with another one of our faves who was dressed up as a giant weiner!

Even though you're a vet and can throw around heavy weight you're always so friendly to the new members and your big smile and confident attitude are contagious. You should be proud of yourself!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe you posted that video again!! Oh man, good times! That was a hilarious day - first time lifting competitively - whoo! And of course the Uni made a repeat appearance at this year's in-house comp. Nothing like full-on spandex to get you motivated to DO WORK!
